| August 24th, 2026: I am ashamed at how long it has been since I posted an update, but life has a way of getting in the way. I was living in Florida for about three years (initially for a job), but I am back in Illinois temporarily while I prepare to move to Southern California (partially for my acting, but there are other reasons). Being back in Illinois means I am also back at my acting school! I recently registered for On Camera 2 at Acting Studio Chicago and cannot wait for classes to start up again! I debated between taking On Camera 2 or retaking Level 3 of the Core Classes. Level 3 did so much for me when I took it before. It really boosted my confidence and led me to auditioning and booking two lead rolls in local plays. However, I feel strong with the subject matter of the core classes. On the other hand, On Camera 1 had left me feeling uncomfortable and off-balance. It was a lot more difficult than I expected it to be, and I struggle with seeing myself On Camera. So, I decided to do the hard thing, because the best growth happens when you step out of your comfort zone. If On Camera is a struggle, that means I have to do it more. I am hoping on the other side of this class, I can go back to my goals that were completely derailed by COVID and find some small film projects to audition for and hopefully get some material to at least start building a reel before moving. I have definitely been struggling with the feeling I let to much time pass and have lost my chance, but I do this because I love it. The worst case scenario for me is to never have the chance to act again, and if I let my doubts get to me and give up, the worst case scenario is guaranteed. In the following weeks, to prepare for class, I am re-reading Audition by Michael Shurtleff (which is basically ASC's textbook) and have been reviewing my notes from the past class. I am also going to see if I still have recordings from On Camera 1 to rewatch. *cringe* Here is to the next chapter. ![]() |
